Super Bowl Beer Competition!
Now, we’re not going to choose a side when it comes to the Super Bowl coming up this Sunday (the Broncos aren’t in it to pull at our heart strings), so how about instead we note a microbrew from each of our contenders’ home states. That way you, the beer loving fans, can make an educated decision on who has the better brews! That’s just our kind of competition!
All the way from Boston, MA, we would like to introduce you to Harpoon Brewery! These guys opened up shop in 1986 along the waterfront of Boston in a warehouse surrounded by fish companies. Starting as some guys who loved beer but didn’t know squat about brewing, they sure have come a long way. They expect you to taste their sense of gratitude reflected in both the quality of the beer and the spirit of fun and enjoyment surrounding their beer and breweries. One brew to scoop up is their flagship and best seller, the Harpoon IPA. This beer is a New England-style IPA that finds harmony in the combination of hops, malt, and yeast so that no single ingredient dominates the drinking experience.
Washington also brings their brewing game with Elysian Brewery! Open since 1996, Elysian’s main brewery started in a 220-seat beer hall on Capitol Hill, Seattle’s most populous neighborhood. Today, Elysian operates four restaurants in the Seattle area. Elysian also has a collaborative relationship with New Belgium in Ft. Collins. In fact, from 2008 to early 2011 the two breweries traded a little bit of brewing space to try out experimental batches. A beer of theirs to place up against the brew of Harpoon is Avatar Jasmine IPA. This beer has a very floral nose while the taste is an elegant balance, allowing the subtle flavor of jasmine to prevail while still delivering the IPA’s essential hoppiness.
Grab one of each and let the games begin!
