Great Mustaches in History

In case you didn’t catch the double entendre, the name of our business, MyHandleBar, doesn’t just refer to the handlebars that steer our giant bike around to cool bars and hangouts, but also to that amazing tuft of facial hair that resides just above the upper lip.

The mustache has been in existence since the beginning of time. From political figures to television stars, this type of facial hair has signified power, masculinity, sexual attraction and social class ranking. But, despite the fact that mustaches, and facial hair in general seem to bring up very strong feelings in just about everyone (love it or hate it!!), today we would like to celebrate some of the greatest mustaches in history.

Friedrich Nietzsche: The thick monstrosity that sat on Nietzsche’s face was thought to be the source of his intellectual power. The 19th-century German philosopher and poet sported a mustache as strange as his ideas at the time.

Salvador Dali: This artist famous for his surreal art certainly had a surreal mustache. It is good to know that he lived in that realm in every aspect of his life. Wow! Do you suppose that the mustache, not to mention that crazy look in his eyes, are what made him a truly vanguard artist?

Mark Twain: As one of the most prominent figures in literary history, perhaps it was Twain’s thick white mustache that gave him the aura of poise, intelligence and success.

Tom Selleck: Just ask your mom or aunt. In the 70s, this television icon’s mustache brought women of all ages to their knees.

Chuck Norris: If any of you follow the Chuck Norris jokes that are sweeping the nation, the following that pay tribute to the martial arts god/TV icon’s mustache will make you chuckle:

Chuck Norrismustache doesn’t need a comb, the comb needs his mustache.”

Chuck Norris doesn’t have a mustache it is just some of his hair trying to run away from his face.”

Chuck Norris injects steroids into his upper lip, so that it can bare the weight of his mustache.“

Enough said.

Hulk Hogan: It started as his signature in the 80’s, but now this wrestler’s white glory is the star of its own reality TV show, several commercials and is hitting it with the ladies after a recent divorce and a sudden new marriage.

Now it is your turn. Do you have an epic mustache? Do you have a friend with a mustache that should make history? Post it on our Facebook Page and we will do a blog post on the history-making mustaches in Boulder and Ft. Collins.
